Some 20 million drug addicts in the world cannot be treated at health centers, so that the United Nations called for universal access for those with this disease, while increasing the consumption of prescription drugs and amphetamines. The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in its annual report, warned that a fifth of drug in the world, including about 20 million people, do not access any treatment against this addiction as smacking “universal access”.
.
Antonio Costa, UNODC executive director, said that “drug addiction is a disease that is not a life sentence. The drug should be sent to treatment centers rather than jail,” the pair said these processes of recovery “should be part of the overall framework of health care, to respect the human rights of drug addicts behind bars. The head of the UNODC advection poor countries “are faced with very serious health consequences to the lack of facilities for the treatment of addicts.”

The World Report emphasizes increased consumption of amphetamine-type stimulants (ATS) and prescription drugs because they are expanding “at a pace well above the laws which regulate.” Such substances “have a highly ingenious marketing, as are custom built so as to meet specific preferences in every situation,” said Costa.

Between 30 and 40 million people worldwide consume ETA and prescription drugs and that number is “probably not afternoon exceed the total number of opiate and cocaine,” the report said. “We will not have solved the global problem of drug addiction or simply move the cocaine and heroin to other addictive substances,” Costa said and added that “there are unlimited quantities of synthetic drugs produced by mafias laboratories produced at negligible cost.

The rapid expansion of production of these drugs is associated in addition to raw materials “are legal and readily available” so that manufacturers “to quickly sell new products (such as ketamine or piperazines) and exploit new markets”. As a test, the report mentions that “the number of clandestine laboratories for amphetamine-type stimulants increased by 20%, even in countries where never before had registered its existence.”

Overall, the report says, “The drug stabilized in the developed world and there are signs of increase in developing countries,” while “there is a shift in consumption trends of new drugs in new markets.” “The production of opium, cocaine and heroin decreased between 2007 and 2009. The consumption of cocaine in the U.S. dropped about two-thirds and violence in Mexico because the cartels are fighting a market that is contracted, said Costa.
However, in parallel said “increased demand for cocaine in Europe, from 2 million in 1998 to 4.1 in 2008.

The document states that marijuana remains the most consumed illicit drug worldwide and it is estimated that between 130 and 190 million people worldwide have smoked at least once a year. “The decline has been noted that addiction to the drug in certain markets like North America and some European countries is another indication of the shift in consumption patterns,” said the head of the UNODC.

Detoxification is the process of removing the drug from the body, it is often necessary to follow a detox center for this.
After detoxing, it’s time for maintenance, which should never be recare in drug use. The integration and rehabilitation of drug addicts is possible.
