Claim universal rehabilitation while growing abuse of synthetic drugs. Some 20 million drug addicts in the world cannot be treated at health centers, so that the United Nations called for universal access for those with this disease, while increasing the consumption of prescription drugs and amphetamines. The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in its annual report, warned that a fifth of drug in the world, including about 20 million people, do not access any treatment against this addiction as smacking “universal access”.

Antonio Costa, UNODC executive director, said that “drug addiction is a disease that is not a life sentence. The drug should be sent to treatment centers rather than jail,” the pair said these processes of recovery “should be part of the overall framework of health care, to respect the human rights of drug addicts behind bars. The head of the UNODC advection poor countries “are faced with very serious health consequences to the lack of facilities for the treatment of addicts.” (more…)
